FALCON NOTES

We're already down to our second month of school.  Quarter grades are coming out soon and do you know how many sectionals your child has done?  As we figure out how to make the most out of our new online database "Charms," please understand that it is a great resource to see if students have done assignments.  It tracks sectionals, quizzes, and papers.  However, it has an odd way of weighting grades and listing grades for students.  I will be posting actual grades in the music room next week for students to check.  Hopefully by next semester we'll have the online grade system working.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.

 UPCOMING MUSICAL EVENTS

Plan ahead to come to Symphony Orchestra’s ENSEMBLE CONCERT on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7:00p.m. in the CV auditorium. Tickets to this event are $5.00 ($3.00 with ASB card or for young children) and all proceeds will go to assist Symphony Students on their Spring Trip to San Francisco.

The WINTER CONCERT will be December 19th (not December 5th. as some earlier calendars said.)  Mark the date and plan to attend with the whole family!

 HOMECOMING GAME RECAP

CV's Annual "Homecoming" football game was last Friday night, where CV's football team demolished Hoover and the Homecoming Court was announced.

Several "Band
Alumni" joined the Band in the stands, playing the familiar pep and fight songs!

Ah, good memories!

 INFORMATION FOR BAND EVENTS

FRIDAY 10/31 - NO FOOTBALL GAME!

Instead there will be a practice after school from 3:15 to 5:30.  This will help us prepare for the Chino competitions the next day, yet still get people home in time to go trick-or-treating!  (seriously guys... aren't you getting a bit OLD to go out begging for candy??)

SATURDAY - 11/1 - CHINO Parade and Field Show!

This is the biggest, baddest competition we do all season!  There are many, many other bands participating  --  this is an excellent opportunity to show our stuff as well as see what else is going on out there in the 'band world'!
It will be a VERY long day!  Get lots of rest the night before, (don't pig out on Halloween candy!) and eat a solid breakfast before reporting for band!  For more details, go to Detailed Calendar.

FRIDAY - 11/7 - Rosemont Night
SATURDAY - 11/8 - La Palma Parade

 SCSBOA HONOR BAND/ORCHESTRA

Honor Groups – SCSBOA honor applications are now available.  Mr. Schick will be giving 40 extra credit points to people who audition and and extra 40 points for those who make it.  This is an excellent opportunity to hone your personal presentation skills and audition technique!

Deadline to turn in the application is November 10th. The auditions will be December 14th at CV.  Extra credit will be given to those who try out.
 CHARMS

Please check out CHARMS to see if your student has been completing their assignments (sectionals, scales tests, etc) and event attendance requirements.

To access CHARMS online, click here or type https://www.charmsoffice.com. Once you are on the  Log In to Parent's Area, our school log in: crescentav
To see your student's personal information, enter their GUSD ID#.  Once on their personal site, you may reset that password if you wish.

Charms should only be used as an aid to check for a student's Sectionals, attendance and assignments, it is NOT a complete grade!!    Please use Charms as a guideline only.

SAN FRANCISCO IS A "GO!" AND MORE PEOPLE ARE SIGNING UP EVERY DAY!

The numbers of people going has shot up by nearly 30, to over 115!  Since there are no airline reservations involved, we have extended the time to turn in San Francisco forms.  Don't miss out!  No late fee yet...  so "JUST DO IT"!! TM

The Spring Trips are a very integral part of the CV Music Department.  They promote  musical excellence and provide an opportunity to perform in a wide variety of venues.  They are also great fun, cool bonding, and wonderful memories.  This year its The Golden Gate! Great America Theme Park!  Dinner Cruise & DJ!!! Off-Broadway production of "42nd St"!  And of course, UC Berkely! Heritage Competition, and Awards dinner/dance!!  Be a part of it all!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Keep eye contact with me. Look up before anything goes wrong. Better to come in early than late.  It is everybody's responsibility to make music together. Move your body to the music and let me hear in your sound what the music looks like.  Be more daring and put more personality in your interpretation.  Put on your Johnny Depp pirate clothes and be more adventuresome!"

some exhortations by Simon Rattle, Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, while guest teaching a college orchestra class
