FALCON NOTES

Being involved in your child's education is extremely important to both your child's development, but also to your school's success.  An NEA study found that...
"When parents are involved in their children's education at home, they do better in school. And when parents are involved in school, children go farther in school — and the schools they go to are better." -  http://www.nea.org/parents/index.html

I feel that that CV's success is a direct result of parent involvement.  I also feel that the success of the Instrumental Music department can be attributed to parent involvement.
We had a parent meeting this past Tuesday and about 26 parents showed up.  Out of 260 students in the music department, that ratio could be higher.  We currently have a few active parents doing many tasks which help out the music department, yet we need more people to come and volunteer to help out our students.  Our next meeting is November 12th from 7:00 - 8:00.
In order to keep the music department headed in the right direction, we need more help.  Come and be involved!

Thank you!

 CHARMS
Please check out CHARMS to see if your student has been completing their assignments (sectionals, scales tests, etc) and event attendance requirements.

To access CHARMS online, click here or type https://www.charmsoffice.com. Once you are on the  Log In to Parent's Area, our school log in: crescentav
To see your student's personal information, enter their GUSD ID#.  Once on their personal site, you may reset that password if you wish.

Charms should only be used as an aid to check for a student's Sectionals, attendance and assignments, it is NOT their complete grade!!  Charm's "bottom line" average is NOT correct, and most "extra credit" and "points off" will NOT show in CHARMS.
We are now working on the financial database.

 UPCOMING MUSICAL EVENTS

Plan ahead to come to Symphony Orchestra’s Ensemble Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7:00p.m. in the CV auditorium. Tickets to this event are $5.00 ($3.00 with ASB or for young children) and all proceeds will go to assist Symphony Students on their Spring Trip to San Francisco.

The Winter Concert will be December 19th instead of December 5th.  This change was necessary and next year we will hopefully have the same date as last year.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

 SCSBOA HONOR BAND/ORCHESTRA

Honor Groups – SCSBOA honor applications are now available.
Deadline to turn in the application is November 10th. The auditions will be December 14th at CV.  Extra credit will be given to those who try out.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"All of the basic elements of music are included in a march - melody, counter melody, harmony, and rhythm.  Using a march as a teaching tool enables a musician to learn the basics of phrasing, balancing the lines, tuning the harmonies, and the importance of clarity and precision of rhythms.  These basic concepts carry over to all forms of music."

Benton Minor HLM 1984
