Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a great summer filled with travel, excitement, fun and family.  At the Schick household everyone was jumping with our new addition to the family Nathan Mathew Schick.  Scott loves his little brother as he was proud to show him off to our friends and family.
Even though this is the first week of school, we are running full tilt.  The Marching Band, 119 strong, has been busy with band camp for the past 2 weeks.  Drum line and Colorguard have been here for 3 weeks.
Every class should now have their lockers and any instruments they need.  We’ve played in all classes and passed out music to everyone.  String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra have seating placement tests next week on special music we passed out.  Wind Ensemble and both Orchestras have scale tests next week.  Jazz band has already had a guest come in and help out with improvising.

I’ve been extremely impressed with the maturity, both personally and musically I’ve seen so far this year.  Many students are extremely eager this year and I’m impressed by the high energy level of each class.  I look forward to working with each class as we explore and expand our musical horizons.

Don’t forget that we have an important parent meeting next Tuesday, September 11th at 7:00 in the Instrumental Music Room.  We depend upon the help and support of our parents in order to provide a first class music experience for our students.  Whether you are able to donate time, resources, or money, everything and anything is appreciated.  I hope to see you on Tuesday.

 BAND CAMP 2007

This will be an exciting season since our theme this year is “Video Evolution.”  The music will highlight historically important video games and their evolution from simple music and graphics, such as “Pong”, and “Asteroids,” to more complex graphics and music, such as “Halo” and “World of Warcraft.”  This year, Jim Stanley, a music department parent, specially arranged our music and Ms. Weaver, the Colorguard coach designed the drill.  A good challenge that we have this year is working with over 50 Band Freshmen.  Almost half of our band is new and even though band camp was challenging, we made great strides.  We had a great parent performance and the students had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying themselves at the End of Band Camp Party.

I would like to thank the many hard working parents who helped make this band camp run smoothly.  Without your help, we wouldn’t have been able to fit uniforms, feed the kids, drive to the beach, or have a party.  Thank you!

 PARENT MEETING 9-11-07

Please join the other instrumental music parents at this month’s CV Instrumental Music Foundation meeting:  Tuesday, September 11th, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Instrumental Music Room at CVHS.  This is your organization:  you’re already a member.  You can get involved in your student’s musical growth at CV by simply attending the monthly meetings – you’ll keep up with music department news and events affecting your student!  By attending meetings, you’ll also have a say in how your Foundation’s money is spent, and much more.

We look forward to meeting the freshman parents, and welcoming back other members, this Tuesday at 7:00 o’clock in Room 3102!

 CLASS FORMS

Thank you to everyone who has already turned in their forms!  Some were returned because they weren’t completely filled out.  If there is missing information or you have not yet turned in your form, please complete them and turn them in on Monday.

There are TWO forms for each class:
-Medical/Field Trip release (various colors for various classes)
-Handbook (white, half-sheet)

If you are renting an instrument, please make sure your form and $45 (per semester) are turned in.

If you are in multiple music classes, you must turn in a separate form for each class.

  BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT

Marching Band will be performing for Back-to-School night on Thursday, Sept. 20 immediately after drill rehearsal.  Times will be announced soon.  Students must wear their music polo shirts and blue jeans, and bring their instruments and flip folders.
