 FALCON NOTES

Hello everyone!

If you missed out on last night’s football game, you missed out on an exciting game!  The outcome was not decided until the last few seconds.  Unfortunately the results were not in the Falcon’s favor, but it a game that exemplifies what High School football games are all about:  Passion and pride.  It was our last home game and as the Band, Pep and Football seniors were be honored, one couldn’t help but feel nostalgic and reflect on a busy, yet productive and worthwhile season we have had.  Marching Band still has an important parade competition this Saturday and their last field show competition is next Saturday, so wish them luck, but as far as Football games go, we are done.  Friday nights are back!

Looking at the calendar, we have only 14 more days of rehearsal time until our Winter Concert.  Every class is preparing madly to produce a spectacular Concert and I invite everyone to come December 7th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium to celebrate the Holidays with us.

To get a dose of music early, come to Symphony’s Ensemble Concert Thursday the 15th at 7:00 in the Auditorium.  Admission is free and you’ll hear wonderful duets, trios, quartets as well as larger groups.  Come out to Support our music students.

Don’t forget our Parent Meeting Tuesday the 13th, updates on the uniform drive as well and final preparations for the Winter Concert will be discusses.  I hope to see you there!

 SPRING TRIP UPDATE

We had 176 students sign up.  We planned for 180 and there is still room for 4 more students.  Turn in your first payment along with registration slip as soon as possible.  We are waiting on the chaperone list until we get a better idea of how many students are attending.

MARCHING BAND CORNER

 LAST GAME OF THE SEASON!

Thanks to the parents who donated and dedicated their evenings every Friday night (and Thursday) to help transport equipment and keep it safe and secure.  We couldn’t do it without your help.  Thanks also to the chaperones volunteer to ride the buses and make sure students are safe.   Thanks also to Dr. Kay Ladanyi, Merry Dacher, Lynn Miyamoto, Ellen Newman, Paz Maria Martinez and Mandy Farrington for coordinating chaperones, food, stand snacks, transportation and all the little, unseen things that help make the CV Marching Band run smoothly.  We are extremely appreciative of your hard work and dedication.

Pictures of the last football game will be posted soon!

 LA PALMA PARADE/BAND REVIEW

We are competing with our parade march "Men of Ohio" tomorrow at the La Palma band review!  Report time for all Marching Band members is 6:45am (6am for crews).  CV will be stepping off at 10:35am, with the parade award ceremony taking place at 1pm.  Students should arrive back at CV at 2:30pm.

Click here for more information on the event!

 MOORPARK BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Next Saturday, November 17 will be our last competition!  Call times will be announced
next week.  CV is scheduled to perform at 6:45pm, with a 5:45pm warm-up time.

 ENSEMBLE CONCERT 11-15-07

Join us for the first ensemble concert of the school year!  Symphony Orchestra students have been hard at work, preparing pieces within their smaller ensemble groups.  The concert takes place in the CVHS Auditorium next Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7pm!

All students participating in the concert have a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, Nov. 14 between 3:30-5:30pm.

 FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES

To help students defray the cost for this year's San Diego trip, there are a number of upcoming fundraisers students can participate in: Border's gift wrap and Community discount cards.  Both of these opportunities will be explained in detail at next the booster meeting Tuesday, Nov. 13, which starts at 7pm in the music room!  See you all there!

 CVIM SUPPORT UPDATE

An update for all CV instrumental Music Parents:

Borders gift wrap fundraiser: This is the fundraiser your students want!! They voted, and this is how they choose to raise money for their spring trip. It’s simple: you and your student sign up for a 2-hour shift wrapping gifts at Borders Glendale during the holiday season. (Shifts are evenings and some weekend daytimes, 42 shifts available in all). Your student gets credit toward the cost of the spring trip for all tips donated during his/her shift; and students get double credit if their parent is there, too.

We need someone to take over supervising this fundraiser. I’ve already made all the arrangements with Borders, and started a sign-up sheet for shifts; and the sup plies will be there. You would just need to (1) follow up and make sure each shift is filled; (2) implement a system for counting and crediting tips for ach shift (I’ll help with this!); and (3) remind people and make sure they show up for their shifts, or find substitutes. If you could do this small favor for your student and the CV instrumental Music program, please contact me or Mr. Schick as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!

CVIM meeting: Next Tuesday, November 13th, is our monthly CV instrumental Music foundation meeting. Please come to the Music Room (#3102) at CVHS and spend just one hour getting up to date on everything from Spring Trip plans to band uniform purchases to concert planning! If all you do is show up and listen, that’s great (though we also never turn down volunteer help).

Hope to see you Tuesday,
Susan Cross Stanley
President, CVIM
