 FALCON NOTES

One of the topics we've been covering this year in a few of the music classes is time.  I've found that most people at this age know the difference between rhythm values (quarter note, eighth note, rests, etc) yet a few lack the coordination or awareness that those notes must fit in a constant time.  Just like seconds and minutes constantly pass throughout the day, in music the time or "tempo" is a constant force which we can "plug in" the appropriate rhythm values.  Like a heartbeat, the tempo is mostly constant, but sometimes will become faster or slower.
It is a challenging skill to be able look at a rhythm and play it evenly in time.  If you are looking for a useful gift or stocking stuffer for the Holidays I would recommend a metronome.  They are extremely helpful in helping musicians stay in time and gain a strong internal pulse.
Thank you and have a great week!

MARCHING BAND CORNER

 LA PALMA PARADE/BAND REVIEW

Colorguard - 1st place!
Band - 3rd place! (tied for 2nd)
Drum Major - 4th place!

Thanks for a great Band Review and parade.  Everyone did amazingly well as all groups earned their highest scores ever!  We are especially proud of Colorguard since they have only been in existence for 2 years and are comprised of Freshmen and Sophomores.
Dorothy Chung, our Drum Major placed 4th out of 11 other Drum Majors!  For her first competition ever, she did a fabulous job.
It's so great to be a falcon!

 ENSEMBLE CONCERT RECAP

Last night, the Symphony Orchestra performed their first Ensemble Concert of the year.  It was held in the Mac Donald Auditorium at Crescenta Valley High School.  Students played ensembles of all kinds;  Duets, Trios, and large groups.  They did a wonderful job performing classical and contemporary music.
Our musicians are truly talented!
 FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES

To help students defray the cost for this year's San Diego trip, there are a number of upcoming fundraisers students can participate in:

1) Border's gift wrap:
Sign-ups will be available next week.  We need two students and one adult to work each shift.

2) Community Discount Cards:
Starts Nov. 26th.  Students will be able to purchase 5 cards for $25.00.  Each card sells for $10.00.  Student will collect $50.00 from sales.  Students then keep the initial $25.00 and turn in the $25.00 profit towards their San Diego Trip.
