 FALCON NOTES

The dust has finally settled from the the explosion of school starting and every class is hard at work rehearsing music.

Next week is Marching Band's first field show competition at College of the Canyons.  To see a preview of their competition show, go to the football game next Friday at Glendale High School.

Symphony Orchestra will start to select and sign up for their Ensemble groups as they prepare for their November 14th Ensemble Concert.

Next Tuesday we will have our October Parent meeting at 7:00pm.  Please make sure you attend so you can be abreast of all the latest information.  Our Foundation President met with all the class presidents and received some really insightful input on student opinion regarding fundraising.

MARCHING BAND CORNER

 LAST WEEK'S GAME

Pictures from the games are posted online!

 THIS WEEK'S GAME

Tonight's game will be against Burroughs High (
1920 Clark Ave, Burbank, CA 91506).  This is our 2nd to last away game of the season.  Call time is 5:30pm (5 for equipment) and we will take buses and trucks to and from CVHS to BHS.

 NEXT WEEK'S GAME

Next week against Burbank High will be our first home game at the Glendale High's Moyse Field.  Call time is 4:30pm (4 for equipment and uniform crews).  Also, Rosemont students will be joining us for our annual Rosemont Night and will perform in part of the field show as well as perform pep songs in the stands.

 HART RAMPAGE COMP

ALL Marching Band members are to arrive at CV at 1pm on Saturday, October 13.  We will have music and marching basic rehearsals from 1-4pm.  We will also be eating lunch as a group during this time.  We plan to leave CV at 4:15pm.

Once we get to College of the Canyons, our warm-up time is schedule for 5:50-6:35pm, and we will perform at 7pm as a Division 4A group.  Students must arrive to CV with their show shirt/MB t-shirt, ready to dress in uniform.  We will watch the award ceremony, which takes place at 9pm, and should arrive back at CV by 11pm.

Students who have paid the $30 "Event Food and Refreshments" fee from Band Camp will have the opportunity next week (Mon-Wed) to choose what kind of sandwich they want for lunch.  Extra sandwiches are an additional charge.  If you have still not paid your $30, please turn it in ASAP.

 BANKING DAY - MARCHING BAND

Next Tuesday, October 9, will be the first banking day of the school year.  The regular school day will start at 9, an hour later than usual.  However, all marching band members must attend morning rehearsal as always.  Due to a staff meeting from 8-9, marching band will practice during regular Zero Period time, from 6:45-7:45am.

 KOREAN YOUTH STRING ORCHESTRA

This new, unique opportunity for our community's Korean string students is open to all violin, viola, cell and bass players in high school (or advanced junior high level).  The orchestra is being formed under the direction of local professionals Mick and Stacy Wetzel (members of the LA Philharmonic) and is sponsored by the Korean Branches of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the LA area.

The last audition will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, followed by 2 rehearsals and a dress rehearsal & performance on Sunday, October 28.  Any students who audition will perform with the orchestra and no one will be turned away.  Please pick up a flyer from the instrumental room for more information.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

People compose for many reasons: to become immortal; because the pianoforte happens to be open; because they want to be a millionaire; because of the praise of friends; because they have looked into a pair of beautiful eyes; for no reason whatsoever.
