 FALCON NOTES

The weeks are flying by!  Band had their first competition at Hart where they did very well in the music category after playing their first home game at Glendale High School against Burbank.
We also had a great parent meeting last Tuesday where we learned about a new fundraiser, "Dream Dinners."  Read more about it in the newsletter and find out how you can make a great meal for 6 and support the Marching Band and their drive for new uniforms.
We are looking for volunteers to drive about 25 PSAT Marching Band students from CV to the Rose bowl so they can participate in UCLA Band Day.
We also need some help to distribute the "Cookieman" fundraiser items from our earlier fundraiser.
This department depends upon the strong support of EVERYONE to ensure that their children receive a quality music education.  Thank you for your generous support.

 DREAM DINNERS 10-22

CVIM is having a fundraiser at Dream Dinners in La Crescenta and would like you to participate!

Here’s how it works: Buy a $25 Dream Dinners Experience ticket.  You’ll be invited to this one-night-only event at Dream Dinners in La Crescenta next Monday, October 22nd.  Each ticket-holder then selects, assembles, and takes home, a Dream Dinners Meal for 6 people.

But wait - there’s more! The full $25 goes directly to CV High Marching Band to buy needed uniforms; and it’s fully tax-deductible!!

PRE-ORDER ONLY: Get your ticket now for a special DREAM DINNERS experience,
and SUPPLY NEW CVHS BAND UNIFORMS at the same time!

Please make checks payable to CVIM (Crescenta Valley Instrumental Music), and put Dream Dinners in the memo.  Your payment is fully tax-deductible.  Mr. Schick has tickets available for purchase in the band office.

MARCHING BAND CORNER

 LAST WEEK'S GAME

Although CV suffered a defeat against Burbank High last Friday (making their year 2-3), Rosemont students got to experience their first high school football game, participating in the field show with us and playing pep songs in the stands.  Pictures will be posted online soon!

 THIS WEEK'S GAME

Friday's game against Glendale High will be at Moyse Field (
1440 East Broadway, Glendale, CA 91205).  Call time is 4:30pm (4 for equipment and uniform crews).  We will be playing the Star Spangled Banner together and sharing half-time with Glendale High's band.

 NEXT WEEK'S GAME

Next week's game will be against Hoover High at Moyse Field.  Although it is Hoover's home game, we will be sharing half-time with them just like with GHS, so call time is 4:30 (4 for equipment and uniform crews).

 HART RECAP

One marching band competition down and 3 more to go!  Our CV Marching Band improved their first field show competition score by almost 10 points from last year.  Their music score was almost 100 points higher than the first competition from last year.  Their music score was the second highest music score in the history of CV.  Even though we didn't place, we are at a better place than we were last year at this time and will definitely improve at the next field show competition.

 UCLA BAND DAY

This Saturday is the annual UCLA Band Day!  We will be participating in the half-time show with other High School Bands from Southern California at the UCLA vs. Cal game.  Group lunch will be provided, but each student should bring money for stadium food and souvenirs.

Call time at CVHS is 7:00am.  Students must arrive ready to dress in uniform.  All schools will be rehearsing before the game at the Rose Bowl at 8:30am.  Game time is at 12:30pm. Dismissal at CV will be around 5pm.

 LOARA BAND REVIEW

Next week's competition will be hosted by Loara High School.  Call times will be announced next week.  Since this is a Competition, extra details apply. Hair must not touch collar and gloves and shoes must be CLEAN and WHITE.  We will take a bus in the morning to Pearson Park and perform our Parade March.

 COOKIEMAN

Items sold for the Cookie Man fundraiser are being delivered tomorrow!  We will need some parent help sorting the boxes.

 LOOKING FOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS 10-20!

Parent drivers are needed for THIS Saturday's UCLA Band Day.  The PSAT will be keeping around 25 Marching Band members from going on the bus with us in the morning, so we need a number of drivers to drop these students off at UCLA after they are done taking the PSAT.

We also need snacks for our remaining Saturday events: Oct. 27 (Loara), Nov. 10 (La Palma), and Nov. 17 (Moorpark).

Please contact Mr. Schick immediately if you are willing to help!

 CVIM MEETING 10-9-07

Thank you to everyone who joined us at last week's booster meeting!!  Minutes from our September meeting are available online on the CVIM Foundation-Support PageNext month's meeting will take place on November 13.
