FALCON NOTES Welcome back and a happy 2008! I hope each and every one of you had a restful and enjoyable Holiday. I realize even more now with a toddler and baby that vacations aren't always "restful" but they are extremely important in renewing bonds with friends, family and loved ones. I had the pleasure of watching our four CV students march in the Rose Parade and was extremely proud of our hard working musical Falcons. Dorothy, Michael, Henry and Olivia made us all proud to be a Falcon. This upcoming week, the Jazz Band has a wonderful Gig at the "La Crescenta Women's club where they will play Swing Dance Music. This past week, the Music Department received a grant from the "Mary Pinola Educational Endowment Fund" to purchase new bass drum harnesses for marching Band. This is great news because the new harnesses will be easier on their backs as they march. We also had our first parent meeting of the year. Not that many people showed up so we hope to get the word out early for our February meeting (February 12th) early. Have a wonderful week! FIRST SEMESTER WINDUP - The end of Fall semester is only a couple weeks away! "Finals" are looming in every class, and Instrumental Music classes are no exception! These next two weeks are a very good time for students to be doing extra practice on the pieces that have been passed out in class. Students should also work on scales while reviewing musical notation. Finals might consist of "playing tests" on excerpts of current music and/or written tests on musical vocabulary and notation.			SPRING MUSICAL Auditions for Pit Orchestra for the Spring Musical are underway! The Musical this year is "Once On This Island", a fun and different style of music and theater. Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend one of the performances! March 7,8,14 or 15 at 7:30 pm or March 9 matinee at 2pm.
LA CRESCENTA WOMEN'S CLUB SWING DANCE - JAZZ BAND The CV Jazz Band will perform at the La Crescenta Women's Club on Saturday January 19th from 7:30-9:30pm. They will play Swing Music from the Big Band Era and it'll be a great time to dance and have fun! Call time for Jazz Band is 6:00pm at CV for dinner It is open to the public and if for more information, contact Mr. Schick at MSchick@gusd.net		PARENT MEETING Last Tuesday, we had a very low turnout for our first parent meeting of the year. We are currently looking for people to help out in all capacities, as many of our board positions will open up for next year. Our next meeting will be February 12th at 7:00pm in the Instrumental Music Room.
