FALCON NOTES This is a short week. Not only do we have four days due to Veteran's day, but this Thursday the end of the first quarter and a minimum day. We are in a rush to learn our holiday music in every class and allow Jazz band to finish class presentations by Thursday. Symphony is busy preparing for the Ensemble Concert next Tuesday. This Tuesday is our monthly Booster Meeting. We need you to attend because we are preparing for our Winter Concert and need help. This music department is huge. We have over 250 students involved and even though we average 30-40 parents at every parent meeting, we tend to call on the same few parents who dedicate their time to ensure that their child receives a quality music education and experience. If you haven't attended a meeting yet, plan to come this Tuesday. If you already come to meetings and haven't volunteered yet, we want you to raise your hand and help out in lightening the load for our hard working parents. You'd be surprised how easy (and fun!) it is to help out. I will see you this Tuesday! |

CVIM UPDATE - STUDENT EXTRA CREDIT Support the Instrumental Music Department by joining us for this month's booster meeting this Tuesday, November 7 at 7pm! Students can earn one sectional credit by having their parents attend. We need some help for our November and December push and can use some new parents at our meetings. Thank you. |
HOOVER GAME RECAP It was an emotional and wonderful night. Our seniors were recognized before the game and given small gifts of appreciation for their dedication and hard work over the years. We have 21 Seniors in the Marching Band and an amazing 18 of them have been in band all 4 years of their high school career. We were able to see Hoover perform their field show and were quite impressed. Not only did we perform our best field show at a football game, but our football team beat Hoover! |

CHINO RECAP Our third competition Saturday is in the books. It was a long day. With the band review in the afternoon and the field show in the evening, our students and chaperones were exhausted by the end of the day. We performed our last band review and even though our score wasn't higher than last week, we still achieved our second highest score in school history. Many of us are still getting used to marching. We've made great strides this year in executing our parade march and I know that we will only get better year after year. We also performed in our third Field Show Competition of the year at Chino and even though it wasn't our best show, we incorporated new visual aspects to our music and made a strong statement. Both Colorguard and Drumline improved their scores from the last competition and Drumline actually came in 3rd. Our big push is in two weeks at Moorpark. I hope many of you come out and support the marching band. |

FLORIDA UPDATE The second Florida payment of $150 is due next week on November 15. All participants were sent home with a reminder notice during the week. A $20 dollar late fee will be assessed for all late payments. Please make checks out to "New Horizon Tours", not CVHS. All money earned by selling World's Finest Chocolate has been automatically applied to the 2nd Florida payment and is reflected in the reminder notice. A new student credit has been posted, which shows money earned through selling Cookieman items and Entertainment books. Credit is not automatically applied to your Florida payment. |
SUPPORT CAMPAIGN Note from Foundation President Susan Stanley: It’s been two weeks since we started the Support Campaign 2006 in CVIM, and we’re not done yet! If you haven’t sent in your donation, there’s still time. All parents of CV High instrumental students received the Support Campaign brochure, which had a tea bag stapled into it. We invited you to enjoy a cup of tea while you wrote your check to “CVIM” – the easiest fundraiser you would ever do! If you become a “Friend of CV Music” by donating $120, you’ll find out what Christine Pham did: she sent us this note along with her donation: “That was the best $120 cup of tea I have ever had!” So don’t wait: join the tea-drinkers, and send in your tax-deductible donation to CVIM Foundation, P.O. Box 582, Verdugo City, CA 91046, today!! (Our Support Campaign has collected less than one-fourth of the $30,000 needed from CVIM to support the instrumental music program – we need your help!) |
