FALCON NOTES

Thank you to all who went to Dominick's last Thursday to support CV Instrumental Music.  This is a monthly tradition which helps raise much needed funds for the music program. Mark your calendar for our first ever Barnes and Noble Book Faire Dec. 4-Dec. 10.  Read all about in this newsletter.
I must say that I am extremely proud of our musicians.  Every class is working extremely hard to improve their music skill in order to provide a wonderful concert on December 8th.
The CV Jazz Band sent a combo to perform for the La Canada Chamber of Commerce on Thursday the 16th.  They played to an audience of over 50 who thought our musicians were "awesome."
The Symphony Orchestra performed their Fall Ensemble Concert on the November 14 to yet another packed and enthusiastic audience.
Our CV Marching Band, Drumline and Colorguard ended their season last Saturday in Moorpark with their highest score of the year.  If you haven't seen Marching Band yet, come to the Montrose Christmas Parade on December 2.
Both String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble are having play quizzes every other day in preparation for our concert on the 8th. I'm getting excited and hope that you all will reserve December 8th at 7:00 (don't be late!) for an evening of delightful musical entertainment!

 LAST CHANCE FOR POINSETTIA'S

NOVEMBER 20 - LAST DAY TO PRE-ORDER

Poinsettia Orders - Pre-order a poinsettia for $10!  These will be used to decorate the stage for the Instrumental Winter Concert on Dec. 8.  The sale ends Nov. 20.
Students were distributed order forms two weeks ago.  Their was an error on the order form which was sent home and we made an attempt to have every student correct the dates in class.
 MOORPARK (11-18-06) RECAP

What a wonderful way to end the season.  We increased our overall score by almost 20 points since our first competition in October.  I am very proud of the improvements in Colorguard, Band and Drumline.  We achieved our goal in increasing the effectiveness of our performance and I can honestly say that we ended the season on an extremely positive last performance.
The crowd reacted to us at all the right moments.  From when Esther turned around in her Wonka hat and Mike TV goggles, to the fun" "Welcome Song" and the last push in Violet, the crowd was supportive and enthusiastic.
 CVIM BOOSTER MEETING CHANGE

Tuesday, November 28
will be our last CVIM Booster meeting of 2006.
All meetings are in the Instrumental Music Room from 7:00-8:00.
Topics include the holiday concert (decorating, snacks, ticket sales, etc) and last minute fundraising opportunities.

There will NOT be a meeting in December.

Read the new message by CVIM President Susan Stanley by going to the Booster page.  If you can't get to the page by clicking on the link above, go to www.falconmusic.org and click on the Instrumental Music boosters link.
 PIT ORCHESTRA AUDITION FORMS

Musical auditions for both cast and pit have been postponed until the first week of January.  Already assigned auditions will be changed to the Jan. 3-5, corresponding to the original time slots during Nov. 29-Dec. 1.

If you are stsill interested in trying out for the pit orchestra for the spring musical, pick up a form from Mr. Schick for an audition time (an online version will be available to download soon).  The earlier you turn in your form, the more chance you have at getting the time slot that you want.

 ENSEMBLE CONCERT RECAP

Even the Meningitis scare could not keep away the crowds at the La Crescenta
Presbyterian Church last Tuesday.  Our symphony students pulled off a wonderful Ensemble Concert filled with woodwind and string ensembles.  Music written by composers from Vivaldi to Poulenc and even an original composition filled the hall in our annual Fall Ensemble Concert.  Thank you to those who showed up to support our hard working talented musicians.
