FALCON NOTES As the year is winding down, I wanted to remind you about our last concert of the year. If you haven't gone to a concert yet, this is one that you must attend. We will be saluting all sorts of heroes through music. I know we are very busy and there are things that we "must do" and going to a high school concert might not fit in to the plan. Either we are too tired, or want to go "out" on a Friday night. However, your child has worked really hard and regardless of what they might say, they do want you to support them. I am saddened by the amount of parents or caregivers who just drop off their students before a concert and pick them up afterwards. While teaching middle school, I ended up taking a special needs child home after our concert because it had gotten late and she was the last student left. I had called her house, but her mother said to "let her walk home." It was 9:00 and dark, so I offered to take the child home. When I asked the child why her mother didn't go to the concert, she replied that "her boyfriend didn't want to go." Understandably, this can seriously impact a child emotional development. I know life gets busy so I send home a calendar at the beginning of each School year so that people can clear work schedules and try plan around their child's concerts. The calendar is even available online. Make an effort this year to be in the audience and be a "hero" to your child. |
