FALCON NOTES

I hope everyone has had a great summer and was able to find some time to relax and recharge!  I spent much needed time with my sons Scott and Nathan as I played Mr. Mom.  The summer went by too fast and already it's been a hectic, yet great first couple weeks.  I'm happy to see many new freshman students as well as several new sophomores and juniors who are new "band freshmen!"
Tomorrow is our parent performance and band camp pool party!  Due to the recent fires, we may be forced to change plans, but we will pass out information at the end of band camp tomorrow.  Yesterday and today we practiced indoors because of the smoke and ash.   Hopefully things will get better tonight and tomorrow will be clear.
I'd like to thank all the parents who helped hem, fit, size, and organize the uniforms this year.  We had a troop come in and take over and as a result, everyone has a uniform that fits!  Picture day was yesterday and everyone looked great!  I'd also like to thank the parents who volunteered to bring snacks, water and juice.  It was a very hot second week and the kids truly appreciated it.
I look forward to meeting all of you Friday at 6:00pm and working with your kids during the school year!

Picture day! First time in uniforms and looking sharp!

FIRST BOOSTER MEETING OF THE YEAR!

Next Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00pm in the Instrumental room (3102) will be our first parent meeting of the year.  Start the year informed!

There will be an informative slideshow of Instrumental activities, information about our Spring Trip to Hawaii, a Korean translator as well an opportunity to meet the Music Parent Boosters and Mr. Schick before the craziness of Back-to-School-night.

As you are all aware, in order for us to provide a quality music education for every student at CV, we rely heavily on parent involvement through volunteering and donations.

I will give extra credit to students if at least one of their parents attend the meeting and signs in!

I hope to see you there!

MARCHING BAND & COLOR GUARD AT BAND CAMP!

Drumline, Color Guard and the
Marching Band are winding up an intense 2 week Band Camp.

Drumline, Color Guard and Band Council had an extra week to start mastering their music and routines as well as plan out band camp activities.

We finished off last week with a great trip to Zuma Beach!

I'm excited about our show, "TO CATCH A THIEF"  It is a tale that will be told through melody and field movements - "The Heist", "Jewels by Moonlight" and "Entrapment/The Slip". Fun!

I look forward to seeing you at the football games and our competitions.

 DROP OFF AND PARKING REMINDER!!

Even though the bungalows are gone, please do NOT pull into the "band parking lot" in the mornings to drop off students or to turn around!
Allow enough time to drop off students on the sidewalk well above (or below) the music room, preferably on the school-side of the street so they will not have to jay-walk ac
ross traffic.  THINK SAFETY!

On Football Game nights, the band lot is closed off, and much of the curb is reserved for buses.

 MARCHING BAND REHEARSALS

Marching Band has after-school practices during the week -
Wednesdays - 3:15-4:30 Music Rehearsal
Thursdays - 4:00 - 6:30 Field Rehearsal

If there is a Thursday football game, practices will be moved up a day.  Please check the calendar for dates!

First weekday rehearsals:
Wednesday, Sept. 2 - Music 3:15 - 4:30pm
Thursday, Sept 3 - Field Reh 4:00 - 6:30pm

 ABSENCE SHEETS

If you will be unable to attend a performance or rehearsal, you need to fill out an absence sheet.  These forms are in the classroom, or online in the "class forms and handouts" section of the website.
Even if you will just be late, or need to leave early from an instrumental music activity, you MUST fill out an absence sheet so that you don't loose the full points for the event.

Even if an absence is excused, it is up to the student to make up the points missed
 CLASS HANDOUTS

Class Forms for Band should have been turned in last week.  If you haven't turned yours in yet, you are in DEEP DARK TROUBLE
