FALCON NOTES The ability to receive PE credit for Marching Band and other physically demanding courses is quickly coming to an end. Due to the federal mandate of No Child Left Behind, School districts are being forced to deny students PE Credit because students must only receive instruction from teachers who are credentialed in the subject that they teach. At CV, we are able to get around it because we give a PE test to the Freshmen in the Spring. However, technically we are not compliant with NCLB and at any moment we could be forced into compliance like most schools in California and the nation. As a result, many Marching Bands are losing enrollment. AB 351 is a bill being proposed in the California Assembly which would allow Marching Band, JROTC, and Drill team to count for PE. Go to http://www.ab351.org/ for more info. We need parents to write letters in support of this bill so that Marching Band, which is extremely physically demanding, will count for PE. BALDWIN PARK FESTIVAL - We urgently need a volunteer to haul the trailer for this event! Please contact Mr. Schick if you can help. When: Wednesday, 3/25/09 Where: Baldwin Park High School Who: Concert Band and Wind Ensemble What: SCSBOA Adjudicated Festival Report Time: 1:45pm (at CV) Perform Time: WE - 3:30pm, CB - 5:15pm Dismiss Time: ~7:30pm at CV What to bring & wear: Bring instrument, music, and full Concert Dress (see below), don't forget shoes and socks!			JAZZ BAND RECAP: ESPERANZA We continue our successes this Festival Season! Jazz Band not only earned unanimous superiors from three well established jazz adjudicators last Saturday, they also earned FIRST PLACE out of 5 Jazz Bands! Great Job Jazz Band! We are proud of your awesome Jazz Greatness!
"CONCERT DRESS" reminder for Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra: GUYS - Black Dress shoes (no sneakers), black socks, black pants, white long sleeve shirt, tie of any color. Concert Band guys must also wear black sport jacket. GIRLS: Mid-calf length Black dress or black skirt with modest white blouse. Black dress shoes (no flipflops) Remember, ladies, this is a PERFORMANCE, not a party or a dance. Please dress appropriately.
SPRING TRIP: MANDATORY MEETING San Francisco is right around the corner! And to make sure that everyone understands how these trips work, there is a MANDATORY MEETING for each trip participant and their parent. The meeting is on a NEW DATE: Wednesday April 1st at 7:00pm in the CV Auditorium.			PCC BAND PERFORMANCE Kyle Luck from PCC will have his band play for CV Friday during 4th period. Band Students have the option, if it's ok with their 4th period teachers, to watch. Afterward, our Symphony Orchestra will perform for them. It'll be a great time to watch a college band and perform for them.
FESTIVAL NEEDS If you have a truck or van with ELECTRIC BRAKES, and have experience hauling a trailer, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We urgently need parents to help haul instruments for upcoming festivals. Some events are during the day on a weekday, but it is worth it to take a day off to watch your student perform and help out the instrumental department at the same time!		LA CAÑADA FESTIVAL - STRING ORCHESTRA Report Time: 7:30a.m.!! Don't be late! Perform Time: 8:45a.m. What to bring & wear: Arrive at CV on time, with instrument and music, dressed in CONCERT DRESS (see above)

CHARMS Student's basic assignments are being entered into CHARMS. (sectionals, scales tests, and event attendance). No Extra Credit. To access CHARMS online, click here or type https://www.charmsoffice.com. Once you are on then Log In to Parent's Area, our school log in is: crescentav . To see your student's personal information, enter their GUSD ID#.			eSCRIP for RALPHS and VONS If you haven't done so already, please sign up for Vons Scrip and Ralphs Scrip. Download instructions here or visit www.falconmusic.org and click the link on the front page, or pick up a handout from the classroom. This is a very painless way to raise funds for our music department.
