FALCON NOTES

As I type this, the Marching Band is getting ready for it's 2nd (and last) Thursday night Football game.  The energy and excitement is buzzing.  They, along with the football team, cheer, color guard and other student groups will make up over 300 students actively involved in a school activity tonight.  We are looking at over 10% of the entire school population.  This will be their 2nd performance of the day and they still have another performance on Saturday at the "South Bay Invitational Field Show Tournament."  Busy kids!
It's a busy time of the year and I just want to remind everyone to take care of themselves. We all make sacrifices, but we need to be smart about it.  Budget your time wisely.  Eat right, get rest, and make wise decisions.
If you have time, come out to West Torrance High School and watch our Marching Band perform their field show "the 47 Ronin."  They start at 7:45 and it will be amazing!

NO MORE BOSTON.  SEATTLE or SAN FRAN.

As you all know, Boston has been canceled.  A survey was passed out and here are the results of what you decided.
San Francisco - 99
Seattle - 32
Either - 39
Neither - 29

San Francisco is the majority choice, however I just received word that the Seattle trip will be $1,039.  Much less than previously thought.

I will be sending home one final survey with the new price quote on Friday.

If interested in being a chaperone, please submit your name to me.  Chaperones pay half-price. Chaperones must travel with the group BOTH WAYS.

 MARCHING BAND'S FIRST COMPETITION

Saturday, Oct. 4, is the South Bay Invitational Field Show Tournament at West High School in Torrance.  This will be our first opportunity to "show our stuff" as well as see what other bands are doing. Prepare for a great evening!

Call time is 4pm, so even if you take the SAT in the morning, you are expected to be there in the afternoon.  Eat a good meal before you come!  Dinner will be provided but not until around 8:30pm.

There will be NO practice on Friday afternoon, 10/3.  Use the time to prepare for Saturday:  DETAILS MATTER: your hair must be trimmed, shoes polished, etc.  Get ready!

INFO FOR BAND for Thursday 10/2
FOOTBALL  v. Burroughs HS. (home game)

Call time is 4:30pm in the Instrumental Music Room.   This is a HOME game in full uniform.  Bring band socks, clean gloves and shiny white shoes!

Drivers are always needed for home games and other events.   Please contact Paul Dutton at 818-249-8378 or 818-378-5440 if you can drive.  He will add your name to the "drivers pool" and contact you regarding your availability for future events.

 STATE OF THE SCHOOLS

This morning, at the crack of dawn when the CV Marching Band is usually serenading the "Balcony of Los Angeles," they were getting suited up for a command performance at the Glendale Community Foundation's "State of the Schools."  They performed for numerous business leaders, all the GUSD Principals, our Superintendent as well as California State Superintendent Jack O'Connell.  They were absolutely impressive and I had numerous positive comments on their wonderful sound and discipline.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"The great challenge which faces us is to assure that, in our society of big-ness, we do not strangle the voice of creativity, that the rules of the game do not overshadow its purpose, that the grand orchestration of society leaves ample room for the man who marches to the music of another drummer."

Hubert Humphrey
