FALCON NOTES The other day I was thinking about how wonderful it is that we still have the ability to offer the arts at CV. Not just Instrumental Music, but Choir, Drama, Dance, Cinema, and the visual arts. Especially in these shaky times where the district is bracing itself for a decline in funding, we can still offer the arts to the students of CV. I know many colleagues who have had to cut a class or two because of their district's decision to cut funds normally allocated to the arts in order to save money. With CVIM around to help financially and strong attendance at the Concerts, as well as the continued parental support, I don't expect the Instrumental Music program to suffer much. We've had to cut back on some music purchases and repairs, but it's always good to reassess how things are done and find ways to streamline things while maintaining a high quality music experience. At CV, the quality of student work in the arts increases every year! Thank you for your continued support! GRADES First Semester is coming to the end; Final Exams will be given during the last week of January. Students will be tested on scales and the pieces being played in class. Practice practice practice, and be sure to attend all sectionals! NO SECTIONAL MAKE-UPS after Jan23rd! Grades are posted in the instrumental room, and will be updated weekly. If there is an error or question about a grade, please fill out a Grade Question form and turn it in to Mr. Schick.			SAN FRANCISCO UPDATE The 3rd payment of $150 for the Spring Trip to San Francisco is due Jan. 23rd. There is a late fee of $20 if not paid by the due dates. There are still some spots available, so it is not too late to sign up! Contact Mr. Schick if you are interested. Permission slips, medical release forms and roommate requests will be passed out soon!
eSCRIP for RALPHS and VONS If you haven't done so already, please sign up for Vons Scrip and Ralphs Scrip. Instructions on how to do this online can be download here. If you can't download from this email, please visit www.falconmusic.org and click the link on the front page, or pick up a handout from the classroom. This is a very painless way to raise funds for our music department. In 2007, we received $9,500 from eScrip alone!			PIT ORCHESTRA FOR SOUND OF MUSIC Thank you to everyone who tried out! The cast and pit have been selected, and rehearsals are now underway. The Sound of Music is a classic family musical -- plan on bringing the whole family to see it. Performance dates are March 6th ,7th ,8th(matinee), 13th & 14th.
