FALCON NOTES

Here we are!  Back for another fun filled year of music and wonderful memories.  I am definitely excited and charged up for this year.  Even though we had a small scare with the "no seven period" rule, our numbers are definitely holding steady.  We have about 270 students officially enrolled in instrumental music this year.
This year we are going to stress involvement.  Involvement in School, and involvement in the music department.  We depend on the hard work of everyone to make music alive at CV.  For example, we just finished a grueling, yet rewarding two weeks of band camp.  We had involved students, parents, alumni and coaches working together to make sure everything ran smoothly.  Barbara Carey did an amazing job making sure we had enough water and snacks for the students.  Our freshmen water crew was also awesome in making sure we stayed hydrated.  Kay Ladyani made sure we had enough cars for Zuma Beach.  We had many people planning the band camp party as well as many coaches making sure our students received personalized instruction.

Those are just a few examples of the many hard working people who work behind the scenes to make sure our students have the proper resources to excel in music.  Please take the time this year to get involved.  All it takes is a little bit of everyone's time to ensure a wonderful music experience for all.  Our first booster meeting is Tuesday September 12 at 7:00 in room 3102.

The Band made the News-Press last week. To read about it, click here.  The link might expire soon so read it while you can.

Marching Band 2006-7
Last Monday, we were successful in getting every one in uniform and taking our official Band Picture.  Thank you to everyone who hemmed pants and fitted everyone!

MARCHING BAND PERFORMANCE AND PARTY WRAP UP

Another band camp has come an gone.  This year, Band Camp was a huge success.  We learned the drill to 2 1/2 songs and memorized the first three songs.  We also memorized half of our Parade March.  All the coaches has wonderful things to say about their sections.
Parents had fun marching with their kids and everyone had a great time. We also recognized 5 outstanding students for their excellence at Band Camp.
Most Outstanding - Matt M., Best Marcher - Kenny D., Most Spirited - Riley N., Most Improved - Angela C., and Most Promising Freshman - Do Jin N.

After the performance, the band had the best band camp party EVER.  In my 6 years of band camps, I can't remember when I've seen so many kids having a blast.  Thank you to the Finley's for hosting such an amazing party.
Pictures of the Band Camp Party and Performance will be online Tuesday night.

Charlie Bucket: Why would Augustus' name already be in the Oompa Loompa's song unless they...
Willy Wonka: [interrupts] Improvisation is parlor trick, anyone can do it.
[turns to Violet]
Willy Wonka: You, little girl. Say something. Anything.
Violet Beauregarde: Chewing gum.
Willy Wonka: Chewing gum is really gross, chewing gum I hate the most. See? Exactly the same.
