FALCON NOTES Thank you for taking an active part in your child's life and attending CV's Back-to-School Night. I met so many new and familiar faces that it reminded me, how lucky I am to teach at CV. I invite anyone to email me or call me at school, if they have any questions regarding the Instrumental Music Policy at CV. 10 minutes a class really isn't long enough to explain everything. I hope everyone enjoyed Marching Band's and Colorguard's performance in the quad. We played selections from our field show, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." This week we will be finalizing groups and pieces for Symphony's first Ensemble Concert as well as practicing sight-reading pieces in every class. Our marching band did very well last week and is looking forward to sharing half-time performances with Glendale High next week. Have a great week and don't forget to turn in your Florida payments by this Friday Sept. 29! |

FLORIDA UPDATE (4-12-4-16) Registration Forms Yellow forms were sent home last Tuesday with information on Florida. Check our website for an exact copy of the form and other information. In order to secure our wonderful "group rate" plane fare, we need $425 for the first payment by Friday September 29th. I realize that the last newsletter had an October 10th deadline, but we just found out that we actually need the first payment by the 29th. My apologies for the change. FOOTBALL GAME VS. VERDUGO HILLS The band had a great performance last Friday at the varsity game against Verdugo Hills. Thank you for putting up with the long hours of practicing. We are learning that hard work truly does pay off. We had a few blemishes in "Main Title" and "Violet," but nothing near the chaos that happened the last two weeks. Go online to see pictures from the show! New Marching Band pictures Next week we will perform the next song "Mike Teeve" and get ready to perform the new drill in two weeks. After that, we will be ready to wow the audience with our amazing rendition of "Agustus Gloop." Our next goal is to finish memorizing the trio section of "Bravura," so that we can start refining and perfecting our parade march and be ready for competition in October. Everyone stepped up on Friday, and I'd like to especially extend a warm and heartfelt thanks to our wonderful Booster Parents. They help out every week by providing snacks, transportation, cleaning up our mess in the stands, taping paper on the bleachers, and organizing/fitting all of our instruments into parent cars, trucks, and vans! We could not do it without your help and support! Next week is an away game against Glendale High; however, we will still wear our uniform and perform for half-time. |

UCLA BAND DAY - MARCHING BAND Call time for UCLA Band day is 12:30pm this Saturday the 30th! It will be a wonderful opportunity for our band to shine and witness a wonderful college band in action and see a real live college football game. Students must wear their band T-Shirts. We will take our uniforms to the Rose Bowl by bus and change after rehearsal and dinner. Don't forget to check the list in the band room to indicate which sandwich you want (turkey, roast beef, or vegetarian) and if you want a $3. upgrade to a 12 inch (sorry, no 12 footers...) The game starts at 7:00pm, and we should be back to school around 10:30pm. |

QUOTE OF THE WEEK Nothing separates the generations more than music. By the time a child is eight or nine, he has developed a passion for his own music that is even stronger than his passions for procrastination and weird clothes. Bill Cosby |
