CVHS Instrumental Music Email Newsletter | date 9-17-06 / issue #5.6 | ||||
FALCON NOTES Thank you to those who attended the Music Booster Meeting last Tuesday. We covered a lot of material and will have the minutes of the meeting posted online this week. Connections. Studies show that students are more confident and successful if they build meaningful connections in their life. CVHS has always prided itself on being a strong community with solid connections among students, parents, and teachers. During the past two years, CV has made a huge effort among its administrative and teaching staff to promote meaningful and powerful connections between our students and their parents in an effort to foster success in our students. As we begin the school year, I am reminded how great it is for me to build those connections by being a music teacher. I have a wonderful job, where connections are formed every day. Most students in music form strong connections in the department. I am lucky to see them grow over a 4 year time period, both in school and at afterschool activities. This newsletter is filled with information on upcoming fundraisers, our last football game (we already have pictures on the web so check out the photo page!), and our Spring Trip to Florida. This week we have four main events: Two fundraiser kick-offs, Back-to-School Night, Ensemble Concert sign-ups, and our third home football game! I hope to see you all at Back-to-School night! - Mr. Schick |

BACK TO SCHOOL This Thursday, Sept. 21, the marching band and colorguard will perform for Back-to-School Night. Rehearsal will still be from 4:00 - 6:30; however, they will then perform for "Back-to-School Night" in the main quad from 6:30 - 6:55. Students must wear their Polo shirts and jeans. They will be dismissed at 7:00. Food will be sold at Back to School night, and I recommend that they purchase food after the performance. I will be in my room during zero period to meet with all the Marching Band Parents. |
FOOTBALL GAME VS. ST. FRANCIS We knew it was going to be tough this week, but our team fought valiantly against St. Francis and came up a bit short. A few bright spots were found, and we look forward to pounding our conference opponents soon. The band and colorguard performed their "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" show for the large crowd. They performed a new song "Veruca Salt." The Band also tried to energize the crowd in the stands and even had a spirit match between the cheerleaders. We are making slow but steady progress and are preparing for our first competition in October. Next week against Verdugo Hills, we will unveil the drill for Veruca. Make connections and plan to support us as the football team attempts its first win of the season! Check out the website for new pictures from the game! |

UPCOMING FUNDRAISERS (Ent. Books, CookieMan) Entertainment Books will be distributed in all the classes on Monday the 18th. Books are only $20.00 each and each student will earn $5.00 per book sold for their trip to Florida. A detailed flier will be distributed on Monday. The CookieMan will be here all day on Tuesday to kick-off our Fall Catalogue fundraiser. This fundraiser has raised over $3,000 for the music department over the past few years. In order to help people with our Spring Trip to Florida, we will give 80% of the profit back to student credits to help them go to Florida. |

FLORIDA INFORMATION (April 12 - 16) Great news! The spring trip to Florida this year will only be $995.00. We were able to create a 5 day, 4 night package to Florida in Orlando for under $1,000 each which includes most meals, plane fair, hotel, transportation, the music festival, and three day admission to all the "Disney Parks." Our only catch is that we need $425 from every student and chaperone planning to go by October 10 to reserve our great plane fare. Registration forms will be handed out on Tuesday. Check the Website on Monday for more detailed information and to download the form in advance. If you are interested in Chaperoning (we need at least 12) please contact me at mozmatt@falconmusic.org |

QUOTE OF THE WEEK Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water bath is to the body. Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894) |
