FALCON NOTES Wonderful things are happening at CV. The Symphony Orchestra is preparing for the Ensemble Concert on November 14, Marching Band just finished a successful field show competition at Royal High School, and every class is rehearsing for the Winter Concert on December 9th. The entire school was visited on Monday and Tuesday by a committee from WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) to update our accreditation. Due to the fact that CV is an incredibly high achieving school, we have been preparing for this visit since before 2005 by compiling data and implementing action plans on student performance, standards, coursework, and school environment. On Wednesday after school all the teachers and administrators met with the WASC committee so they could inform us on their findings. The praise was overwhelming. They commended us all on nurturing a warm learning environment for our students. Not only did they say that were a superior school, but that we were constantly striving to improve and didn't just "rest on our laurels." Members from the WASC Committee visited and observed every teacher at CV. Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra were all observed by the WASC Committee and told how "amazing" we were. It's great to be a falcon! |

BURBANK GAME RECAP Can you believe that we've been in school for 7 weeks and just had our first away game? It was a treat to travel to another school and not wear our uniforms. We played many pep songs in the stands and even went over our Parade March "Bravura" and our field show music to prepare for the Royal Classic. Even though our team lost, we saw great heart and determination against Burbank. Our kids had fun and were able to play a lot to try to pep up the audience and "Battle" with the Burbank Band. |
ROYAL CLASSIC RECAP We had our first competition last Saturday and earned a 3rd place rating (out of 3) for Drumline, Colorguard, and Band. We saw many strong and competitive bands which impressed us with their musicianship, dedication and performance. The good news is that we received a higher score than last year at this time and that we have a clear and definite path which we can take to increase our performance. First competitions are always a learning experience and even though we definitely did not present our best performance, I am confident that we will greatly improve our performance next week at Loara. |
