FALCON NOTES We had another wonderful yet hectic week for the CV Instrumental music department. Here is a sampling of what we did this week: The marching band learned and performed a new song for the field show, ensemble groups were finalized in symphony orchestra, and we passed out new music in wind ensemble and string orchestra. Marching band performed the "Star Spangled Banner" with the GHS Nitro Marching Band and participated with over 3,200 musicians at UCLA Band Day. Don't forget that we also had two fundraisers and that the first payment towards our annual spring trip was due Friday. CV is a wonderful place to be, and sometimes it can get very busy. This week should cool down a bit as we settle into a routine. We have had some extraordinarily hard working and involved parents helping us out at football games and most recently, UCLA Band Day. Without their involvement, our department wouldn't be as strong. We actually need more parent volunteers to help spread out our resources. Don't forget to come to our Parent Foundation meeting NEXT Tuesday the 10th from 7-8 in room 3106 to see how you can be involved. |

UCLA BAND DAY 9-30-06 RECAP What a wonderful and LONG day our CV Marching Band and Colorguard had on Saturday. We, along with 38 other schools, performed at the UCLA vs. Stanford football game. I spoke to the band director from UCLA, and he told me that there were about 3,200 students on the field. It was the largest UCLA Band day in history. Our twirler Sharon Cho even made prime time as she was featured for a few seconds on the Jumbo Screen. CV made a strong musical and visual impact as well since we were in the front rank. UCLA's band director told me that "only the special bands get to be in front." |
FOOTBALL GAME VS. GLENDALE HIGH We won! The band had forgotten how much more exciting a football game can be when our team wins. It was a great, solid win that I'm sure inspired our team as well as the fans. Both CV and GHS performed the "Star Spangled Banner" in the first ever "combined parade block." Many of our CV kids were thrilled to play next to members of the GHS band. Everyone sounded impressive as Mrs. Rangel from GHS conducted. During half-time, we watched GHS perform their half-time show and when they were done, they watched our field show. Afterwards, officers from both bands met and congratulated each other on a great performance. This annual tradition fosters friendship and goodwill between the schools and has existed for years. Glendale Unified School District should be proud of it's music programs. |

FLORIDA UPDATE Florida better brace itself because 203 CV Instrumentalists will descend on Orlando for Spring Break. Hopefully with less impact than a hurricane. We were expecting about 160-170 students participating and figured if we reserved a block of 200 tickets everything would be fine. However, our grand total is 221 participants when we add chaperones and staff to the mix. Needless to say, we are very excited for the trip and will post a room list on Monday. Due to the increased number of participants, students will have an extra day to decide their room/bus/plane assignments. Any change requests must be put in writing and given to me by the end of the day on Monday October 2nd. IMPORTANT If you spoke with me regarding flight alterations you need to look up which Delta flight you plan to connect with and let me know asap. Our travel agent wants to work with you, but needs specific flight numbers so that he can inform Delta when he purchases the tickets. Please go to the delta website to look up flight numbers. www.delta.com Our current flight information is located on our website. Due to the overflow of participants, some flight numbers might change. If you just want to purchase a one-way ticket, let me know via email and I'll pass along the info. Any price differentials will be dealt with in the next payment due November. |
