FALCON NOTES

The weeks are blazing by at top speed.  I can't believe that we already had "Back to School Night."
Thank you to everyone who attended Back to School night last Thursday.  Being involved in your child's life during high school is essential in making sure that they are successful in life.

This week we had in-class sectionals with the Jazz Band.  Professional coaches came in to help them rehearse and learn about improvising and chord progressions.

The Symphony Orchestra had a guest Violinist, Moses Pagossian come in to talk and play for them.  He also told them about his chamber music series at Zipper hall at the Colburn School of Music.  They were encourage to attend the concert this Sunday at 3:00.

As we close the Entertainment Book Fundraiser, we start another one this week.  Thank you for your support of our music program.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS

Entertainment Books are now due.  They are $25.00 each and include discounts to many local and non-local places.
Please make checks payable to "CVHS" and write "Band" in the memo line.

If you would like to order a book online for another city, go to www.fundrasising.entertainment.com

Our account # is 618154.
If everyone sells one book, we can make about $2,700 for the music department.

SECOND AWAY GAME

Even though the Football team suffered another heartbreaking loss, the band was behind them 100%.  We played many more pep songs than last game and definitely made our presence known to the Don's of Verdugo Hills High School.

COOKIEMAN FUNDRAISER

On Monday, we will kick off our "Cookie Man" fundraiser.  Every class will receive catalogues filled with wonderful holiday items ranging from cookies, candles and other novelties.  Last year we raised about $3,000 with this fundraiser which helped us purchase music, pay for festival expenses and acquire new instruments.
We really need your help in order to make this fundraiser successful.
Thank you.

SPRING TRIP

This year, the music department will be taking a trip to San Francisco and making a stop at Monterey Bay on the way home.  The first deposit of $75.00 is due Wednesday October 5.  A letter will be sent home with a sample itinerary and more details.

Winter Art Program Cover Contest

On Monday, we will begin accepting submissions for our Winter concert cover.

We are looking for designs which have the following themes:

Winter
The Holidays
Music

Good luck.  The winner will receive a free DVD and CD of the Winter Concert.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music.
