String Orchestra is a 1-year class for the intermediate to advanced string or piano player. This class will further develop music reading skills and playing techniques. It develops the Visual and Performing Arts Standards by developing and expanding musical expression, string orchestral music concepts, aesthetic judgments, connections in society, as well as providing a greater understanding of music from various classical periods, composers, and cultures. Performance participation is a requirement of the class.
String Orchestra performs at school and at adjudicated festivals throughout the entire school year as well as the Spring Trip. Occasionally we send small groups out into the community to perform. It is a privilege to be a member of the Crescenta Valley High School String Orchestra since it represents the school at every performance.
Additional String Orchestra Requirements
Students will be required to share music lockers, since there is a shortage of lockers. When students share lockers, it is each student’s responsibility to share the cost of a lock and know the locker combination. Students must let Mr. Schick or the class Equipment Manager if they desire to change lockers.
- Each student should have an extra supply of strings and rosin for their instrument. Although the school has some available, supplies are limited.
Instruments
Instruments may be available for use; however priority will be given to students who do not own their own. We ask the following amounts from students who use school instruments to cover maintenance and repair costs.
- $45/semester/instrument
- $50/year Percussion
- $30/year Piano
